PUFFY TACOS SAN ANTONIO STYLE!! STEP BY STEP ❤

Ingredients

  • 2 cups masa harina

  • 1 1/4 cups warm water

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • Oil for frying

  • 1 lb ground beef (or your preferred protein)

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp pepper

  • Shredded lettuce

  • Diced tomatoes

  • Shredded cheese

  • Salsa or hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough:
Mix masa harina, salt, and warm water until a soft dough forms. Rest for 10 minutes.

  2. Shape the shells:
Divide dough into small balls and press into thick tortillas (slightly thicker than regular).

  3. Fry the tortillas:
Heat oil. Fry each tortilla until it puffs. Use tongs to fold into a taco shape and fry until golden. Drain on paper towels.

  4. Cook the filling:
In a skillet, cook ground beef with onion and garlic until browned.
Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well and simmer for 3–4 minutes.

  5. Assemble:
Fill each puffy taco shell with beef.
Add lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and salsa as desired.

Notes / Tips

  • Dough must rest so the shells puff properly.

  • Oil needs to be hot enough to make the tortillas expand.

  • You can substitute chicken, beans, or shrimp for the filling.
