How to Cut Romaine Lettuce Beautifully Every Time // Quick and easy ❤️

A crisp, vibrant head of romaine can instantly elevate any dish—from simple salads to loaded tacos. Knowing how to cut it properly not only improves presentation but also keeps it fresh and crunchy longer. This quick method is easy, practical, and perfect for everyday cooking.

Ingredients (for 2–3 servings)

  • 1 fresh head of romaine lettuce

Instructions
Start by rinsing the outside of the romaine and patting it dry. If you notice any dark or wilted edges, trim them off with a knife.

Place the lettuce on a cutting board and slice it lengthwise from top to bottom, creating two halves.

Lay each half cut-side down for stability. Slice lengthwise again into sections, stopping just before the core so the leaves stay together.

Turn the lettuce sideways and begin slicing across. For tacos or garnishes, cut thin strips. For salads, aim for medium pieces. For heartier salads like Caesar, cut slightly larger chunks.

When you reach the dense white core, trim it off and discard.

Transfer the chopped lettuce to a bowl or salad spinner. Rinse thoroughly under cold water, then spin or pat dry until crisp.

Store in the refrigerator in a sealed container or inside the spinner to keep it fresh.

Notes & Tips

  • Thinner cuts work best for tacos, while thicker pieces are ideal for salads.
  • Always dry lettuce well—this helps dressings stick better.
  • Cutting or tearing both work fine, so choose what’s easiest for you.
  • For extra freshness, store with a paper towel to absorb moisture.

Now you’ve got perfectly cut romaine ready for anything—fresh, crisp, and delicious.
